Firstly, I would like to thank Thailand Institute of Justice and indeed TIJ Youth Forum Team for making such great events although its still in the middle of mourning period. Don't forget to say, I'd like to send my deep condolences towards His Majesty King Bhumibol.
Yep, I was going to Thailand for my first international forum plus conference. It's called as TIJ Youth Forum on Justice and Rule of Law 2016, under the theme "Sustainable Development through Crime Prevention", in conjunction with the 1st ASEAN Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. I was selected as one of 40 delegates who were able to participate in the forum amongst all ASEAN and non-ASEAN youths. This event was held in the capital city of Thailand, yup its Bangkok. I went to Thailand from 6-12 November 2016. Only stayed a week but that was amazing!
TIJ Youth Forum on Justice and the Rule of Law 2016 was hosted by Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), had 4 panels inside to discuss regarding: Migrant Workers, Women Empowerment, Crime & Technology, and Wildlife Trafficking. I was in Women Empowerment panel. It is so me, right? #SDG5

Without further due, let's begin my story in Thailand! I was arrived at Don Mueang Airport at 10.15am, passed the immigration, took my luggage, then came out at the arrival hall at 11am. On time with the first bus from TIJ Youth Forum. Michelle and Vannak already arrived first than me, this thus after I come then we directly go to hotel. According to the schedule, there was no plan for 6th November (only for gathering all delegates basically). So I assumed that it would be free time the whole day, and it was not covered by the committee. But then, I thought wrong. Lunch and dinner still covered by the committee. And we still had free time for like 4 hours in between lunch and dinner. So that, I went to Chatuchak Weekend Market. OK, went shopping on my first day of "travelling", that's rarely happens to me ๐
Eh, before going to Chatuchak, my friends and I went to Siam Square first.

Like another capital city, Bangkok is full of skyscrapers and tall buildings.
I stayed in AETAS Hotel Bangkok (Ruamrudee) anyway, 4 star hotel --I got one sharing room, twin bed--. It's only 5 minutes walk to Phloen Chit BTS. My roommate was from Malaysia, pretty Janice Hew.
No jet lag anyway from Jakarta to Bangkok, idk because there is no exact difference between Jakarta and Bangkok (the circumstances), and also no time difference between Indonesia and Thailand. I could go somewhere directly after arriving.
On 7th November, the forum officially begins. We gathered first at the lobby to go to the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ). From our hotel to TIJ it was only took 7 minutes walk. The first day was only seminar from the most outstanding, fancy, and amazing speakers! The Director of TIJ, Mr. Kittipong Kittayarak welcomed us with his greetings. Followed by speech from Mr. Zaman Sia Sarif, the Director of International Commission of Jurists Regional Asia and Pacific. Their speeches were truly awesome and inspiring. (and I still have unanswered question to him ๐
but time was not permitting me to asked).
In the afternoon, we were having our first discussion in each panel. Only an hour for talking about our perspectives by each participant. Then in the evening, we got a welcome dinner of TIJYF at Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel Bangkok. Just a spoiler, I met my senior back then in high school in this forum.... again. Little reunion of SMANIC haha.
Anyway, since my first day arriving in Thailand, the committee has provided me with overwhelming meals ๐๐ buffet, snack, buffet, snack. I am pretty sure I gained weight after coming back from Thailand. Almost every day I talked to myself, "Ratih, stop eating... Ratih, don't eat everything" HAHAHAHA. ๐ Thanks TIJ Youth Forum Team!
Second day was made to start the discussion, but women empowerment team got such an excursion to go to Women Prison!! Yaaay. On the women prison, I saw how Thai government thinking so much about their peoples. Even the offenders in the prison, still being treated (more than) humanely. I went to a prison that's special for drug addicts. The main aim of this prison is not only to detent the offenders, but they focus on the rehabilitation. After that, we went back to TIJ Office. Followed by the next speaker, Dr. Sita. She is truly inspiring. She told us what are the main problems that occurred to women. We got 2 speakers at that day. But but, we went to Dusit Thani in the evening to have welcome dinner of ACCPCJ. I sat together with team halal food h4h4h4. I ate a lot, like...a lot ๐well, eating in most costly hotel (&free) is my one of a kind experience. Ah ya, from day 2 until day 4, each panel has their own schedule. Thus, Wildlife Trafficking already going to Dusit Thani first before 3 other panels.
--I guess there was a free time given by the committee. But I forgot whether it was on the second...or third day. I went to Asiatique. Mandatory visit when in Bangkok, right? ๐ --
--If it was on the second day, thus welcome dinner in Dusit Thani was on the third day-- then we were continue finishing the proposal--
Third day was truly made for discussion. Whole day discussion for project making. I wouldn't say much ๐ we made the project until 1am at the hotel. Anyhow, all delegates seems already understood quite well about its topic they were represented. Meanwhile, I was selected (probably) because I showed my eagerness about women empowerment itself. But somehow, since I am passionate to it so I am wholeheartedly happy to learn more and make the project.
During the project making was tiring yet fun because we did it together. ๐
To be continued... :)
